Learning is fun, and that is how SDK Plus PENABUR Cirebon wrapped the English class during English Week 2023. Under the theme of ‘The Brave Conqueror’, the event was held from 9-12 October 2023 with the final celebration on Friday, 13 October 2023.
From Monday to Thursday, the English period in class was not the usual teaching-learning activity. The English teachers had prepared many activities specialized to make English Week more fun. There were games like the treasure hunt for Grades 5 and 6. During the English class, they will find the hidden puzzle piece around the library room, answer all of the questions related to their English materials that were written on the puzzle pieces, and arrange the puzzle to find out the hidden location where their treasure is kept.
Not only games, students also get to use English class to practice dancing together before the final performance on Friday. The song chosen was ‘Brave’ by Sara Bailles and each class got to customize their performance with the choreography provided by the English teachers.
English Week 2023 is also meant to teach our students to use English more daily and to remind each other of how important it is. This effort doesn’t come without a price, as the one who can engage their friends to speak in English will later be chosen as the English Ambassador.
Speaking of bravery, there are many idols and popular figures that can be associated with a brave personality, such as the superheroes we see on the big screen. Every student has their own favorite hero, and during the English week, they were able to feel how it feels to be a hero of their own.
As excited as their child, parents also participated in English Week to create the best photoshoot of their children as superhero. Suddenly, SDK Plus PENABUR Cirebon had so many heroes! There were Spiderman, Superwoman, Queen and Kings, and many more! All of the photos submitted were then printed to be put up on the school’s wall magazine, so everyone who comes to visit SDK Plus PENABUR Cirebon can see all of our lovely brave heroes.
However, a photo might not be enough. Who wouldn’t want to see our heroes in person? Therefore, we had specially prepared a parade for the superheroes to meet and greet other people at the final event on Friday, 13 October 2024. All of the superheroes walked from SDK Plus to SMPK-SMAK Plus and went around the parking area to the TKK Plus PENABUR Cirebon.
After their long and tiring service as the hero, finally, it’s time for their own event. First of all, they performed the dance they had prepared weeks before. All of the performances were so amazing and breathtaking, as each class had a different creative addition to the choreography! After that, the students were split into different groups consisting of Grades 1-3 and Grades 4-6. They have a guide to the posts with various games that will bring them to the final destination where a treasure is hidden. Not only were they able to work in groups with friends from different classes and ages, but they also learned to share their treasures together.
At the end of the event, they gathered in the school hall to listen to the winner announcement for the best dancing performance and the best costume. At last, the announcement also goes for the English Ambassador from each class, who from now on will hold a responsibility to make sure that everyone in their class speaks English most of the time.
By holding English Week with the theme of ‘The Brave Conqueror’, we wish all of the students to remember that a superhero is not only someone who saves the world but also within ourselves as our own hero.
